On Hope. From the Brandt Report (1980)

A new century nears, and with it the prospects of a new civilization. Could we not begin to lay the basis for that new community with reasonable relations among all people and nations, and to build a world in which sharing, justice, freedom and peace might prevail?

— Willy Brandt, 1983 (written by James Quilligan for Willy Brandt)

Notes on Janusian Thinking

Excerpts from article by Ilan Mochari

"If you expose yourself to teammates--or experiences--full of opposite traits, creative results are likely to follow."

"Some of the most significant ideas come about when someone sees a problem in a new way--often by combining disparate elements that initially seemed unrelated," writes marketing and strategy consultant Dorie Clark in her 2015 book..."

Harvard Medical School professor Albert Rothenberg dubbed this process "Janusian Thinking." Janus, as you may recall...was a Roman god with two faces, each looking in the opposite direction. For Rothenberg, notes creativity researcher Michael Michalko, (see the link for more) the two faces of Janus symbolized a state of mind that often yields creative insights: The ability to simultaneously conceive of an idea and its opposite...

Applying a fresh perspective from a different profession or discipline can stimulate creative breakthroughs. Jobs' marriage of the seemingly disparate fields of calligraphy and computers is but one example.

Memories of fab events - Slush Poker Night!

Pictured: Especially loved this piece of art work.

Investor Poker Night 2016 - a  legendary Slush Helsinki side event -  hosted @ Open Ocean VC Founding Partner Michael “Monty” Widenius at his home. Participated in my role as Head of Investor Relations, founding team of Slush China. A warm thank you for the hospitality! For his story, see link

The widest whisky collection that I've seen! Such a gracious gesture: open bar for the night.

With careful consideration, made myself a cocktail. Made ten more, for the crowd that gathered round! Yes, I love serving great teas - but cocktails every now and then, too. Wonderful memories. Great discussions on the Nordic VC scene.

Virtue, tech and paradox management

 Repost from earlier

Introduction for upcoming podcast is finished! The mission is to provide snapshots of one cultural mediator's journey into the brave new world of sustainable finance, sharing lesssons learned.

A MA thesis media project

Upcoming 純怡Media podcasts exploring the relationship of virtue, tech and paradox management. We define "paradox management" according to Dr Elaine Karsaklian, who writes “Paradox management is inherent in the Chinese culture” and “Change is motivated by the internal tension between two opposing forces”. She writes about the land of paradox management (China) in which "development, coherence, and consistency (has been created) out of instability, chaos, and contradiction".

Taking this perspective, Chunyi ventures into the fascinating field of social impact investment, analysing its development via Nordic-China comparisons. She applies paradox management lens, embracing difference positively and sifting for the essence of that "internal tension" between opposites... with the ultimate mission of smart contradiction management in order to build partnerships for the UN 2030 sustainable development goals  - targeting goal number 17.

A funding proposal is under study
